A turned dark wood twine or string dispenser, identified as a piece of treen. The item comprises a cylindrical body mounted on a flared, stepped circular base, topped with a wide, domed removable lid. The lid is designed with a central aperture through which twine is fed from the hollow interior. The wood exhibits a polished finish with a visible grain, characteristic of a hardwood such as mahogany or rosewood. No maker marks, labels, or inscriptions are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces. This style of domestic object is characteristic of English wood turning from the mid-19th century.
