This lot features two items of historical and sporting interest from the early 20th century. The first is a sterling silver athletic fob medal by the renowned Birmingham medalist William James Dingley. The obverse depicts two male runners in relief. To the left is an applied rose gold-tone shield inscribed Challenge Shield. The medal features a scroll to the upper right marked Indic and a lower scroll dated 1920 with the initials S.P.R.C. The reverse bears the maker mark W.J.D and a full set of Birmingham hallmarks, including the anchor, lion passant, and the lowercase date letter u for 1919. It is also stamped with the registration mark REGD NO 664369.
The second item is a commemorative mixed-metal crest badge featuring the heraldic arms of the city of Cambrai, France. The central shield displays a double-headed eagle beneath a mural crown. The design is flanked by thistle-style foliage and a lower spherical element. A copper-toned scroll across the centre is embossed with the word Cambrai, which is also visible on a smaller scroll within the crown.
